Safety Technology International founder Jack Taylor sadly passes away aged 86

It is with deep regret and profound sadness we have to inform you of the passing of Safety Technology International founder, Jack Taylor.

Taken ill at his home in Florida shortly after Christmas, Jack was flown back to Waterford, Michigan on Monday 27 March, where his condition deteriorated.

Jack passed away on Sunday 31 March 2019 surrounded by his close family, this follows the passing of his dear wife Bernadine in June 2016.

An entrepreneur and inventor, Jack used his expertise in security systems to invent the original Stopper®. Answering a call from a local Detroit school administrator who wanted to stop false alarms, his innovation provided the solution to this challenge, and countless more like it – changing the face of fire safety forever.

A businessman, a family man, the company has remained family owned and operated for four decades under the care of Jack and his immediate family, who he held so dear. From that one ingenious product, over 1000 STI products have been designed using Jack’s blueprint for innovation within the fire, safety and security industry.

Jack played an influential role in the founding of STI EMEA in the United Kingdom in 1994. The company moved to a new building in 2016, aptly named Taylor House in Jack’s honour.

Attending the open day of his namesake in April 2017, Jack commented that the original Stopper had ‘totally exceeded his expectations’, from humble beginnings in his Detroit basement it is now sold the world over – from the Empire State Building to Ski Dubai, the Cutty Sark to the Nou Camp.

Jack leaves behind a global legacy; inventor, businessman and family man, Jack Taylor revolutionised the way establishments around the world manage their false fire alarms, and will for many years to come.
